Federal, State and Local Law makes it illegal to discriminate against any person by refusing to rent, sell or make housing loans because of that person’s race, sex, color, national origin, religion, handicap, families with children or ancestry. Under the Title VIII Fair Housing Law as amended in March 1989, it is illegal to discriminate against persons because of their Handicap or against Families with Children. The Gary Human Relations Commission Ordinance covers homeowners, tenants, landlords, landowners, real estate agencies, companies, as well as financial and lending institutions and their representatives.
